.K. Place Paris completely stole my heart. Parisian hotels have a way of doing that, but the French take it to another level when it comes to exceeding expectations in detail, design, and luxury. They just get it. Riccardo Ortigini, the General Manager, shared insights about the hotel and his life in Paris—such a fascinating conversation!
What inspired you to work in hospitality and how long have you been with the J.K group?
I had the fortune to grow up in a very small but charming village, Erbusco, in the Franciacorta area.
When I was young my town was known because of L’Albereta, an “outstanding hotel” that at that time had the world famous Gualtiero Marchesi restaurant. I worked during the weekend to pay my university off and I discovered this magic universe and slowly I fell in love with it.
I was also inspired by some people, the first GM Mr Confalonieri that saw the talent in me and the Moretti family that gave me the opportunity to manage one of their beautiful properties, L’Andana in Tuscany.
I joined J.K. at the beginning of 2019 to open the new J.K. Place Paris, the first J.K. outside of the “Italian border”, I could not say no to this opportunity.
What makes hospitality an attractive industry in 2024?
It’s dynamic nature first, each day in fact is a new exciting challenge.
Then the opportunity to meet and work with people from every corner of the world. Last but not least you get to be a better person and consequently a better professional.
How would you describe JK Place Paris?
Modern, chic, sophisticated and “warm”.

How would you describe the neighborhood where it is located?
Authentic. We are located in Rue De Lille, just one block away from the Musée D’Orsay, an elegant and charming street on the iconic Rive Gauche.
The area is lively but at the same time discreet, with little nice cafés, groceries stores and restaurants. It is very Parisian!
What are your most loved hotels in the world?
I have to admit that one of my favourite hotels is the Lowell in Nyc, I just love it. Another hotel I fell in love with is the J.K. Place Capri (first time I went there I was not working for J.K. yet), the terrace has a view that is astounding.
If I can add one more property is definitely Singita Sabora, a truly special place, sunset there is magic.
Your favourite spots in Paris?
One of my favourite things is to sit on a bench in front of the fountain in St Sulpice.
Another favourite place is for sure the Flea Market or Marché aux Puces, I love its energy and its people, I go there once every month.
Last but not least, Les Invalides. When I travel and I head back home from the airport and I see Les Invalides, I say to myself: I am home.
