The Heart of a Hollywood Legend: a few days with Ali MacGraw

This time last year, I had the extraordinary privilege of spending time with a woman many know as the it girl of the 70s and 80s, a major Hollywood icon, Ali MacGraw. What made those days truly unforgettable was that I got to experience her not just as a legendary actress, but as a deeply thoughtful, insightful, and generous human being.

Ali visited The Lowell to reconnect with a place that had once been home to her. During her stay, we shared moments that I will carry with me forever—conversations over meetings, a beautifully organized tea at the Lowell, and long walks around New York City. The days we spent together rank among the most enriching of my life, and not just because of her fame, but because of the profound warmth and humanity she brought to every interaction.

Ali has a presence that is both grand and grounded. She treats everyone around her with immense respect and attention, regardless of status or circumstance. She shared stories of Hollywood in the 80s—moments I would never have otherwise encountered—and reflections on life that resonated far beyond the world of film. She reminded me that kindness, curiosity, and self-respect are timeless values, and that no one is too big or too small to embody them.

She also offered me personal advice that has stayed with me. Ali encouraged me to embrace gratitude for my experiences, to recognize the time and potential still ahead, and to focus on building my own life and business with confidence. She shared her own love story and lessons learned, emphasizing the importance of self-respect and unshakable self-belief—a mindset that allows you to navigate life without being shaken by others.

Even simple moments became extraordinary in her presence. Walking with her to Uniqlo, a woman approached us, clearly moved, and shared that Ali had inspired her hairstyle. At 80 years old, Ali continues to inspire women, reminding everyone that influence is not just about fame—it’s about how you carry yourself and touch lives. Later, we wandered to my favorite spot in Central Park, the rocks, where she accompanied me on what might have seemed a “crazy” walk to some, but to her, it was simply part of exploring and enjoying life.

As Valentine’s Day approaches, I feel particularly grateful that 2025’s Valentine’s Day was spent with Ali. That day, and all it represented—the laughter, the conversations, the wisdom, and the presence of such an extraordinary woman—will always be marked by her in my memory moving forward.

Spending time with Ali MacGraw was a rare gift. She showed me that true influence comes not just from achievements, but from depth, grace, and genuine care for others. Her spirit, her stories, and her wisdom left an indelible mark on me, and I will always treasure the days I spent with her in New York City.
